Best antivirus?

Yeah so i'm sick of AVG it has failed me.
I've used Norton in the past
Used McAffe in the past (idk how to spell it if thats not right too lazy to look)

What do you think is the best antivirus?

Two of my favorite antiviruses are avast! and Avira AntiVir.

Avira - The free edition is good. It doesn't detect rogue antiviruses until they're on the computer, but they're detected on startup, so it's not too bad.

Avast - While it doesn't have a heuristics engine, it rips rootkits a new one. It uses antirootkit technology based on GMER.

Kaspersky - Also good, while I personally haven't used it, I've heard good things.

I've used Avast and Avira both as alternative's when i've picked up a virus but i've never really used them as a primary antivirus. At the moment im considering to buy avast pro because I like the boot scanner it has.

Microsoft Security Essentials, from what I hear is surprisingly good. It isn't resource heavy, does pretty well with virus detection and also is free. People are loving the fact that it barely even slows start up time. I have heard that this in combination with good common sense will keep you from getting viruses.

If you're going to buy avast pro, I'm going to make a recommendation. They're running a special for the next two days for the their complete package for the same price as the pro edition.

Didn't end up buying anything yet. Started to, and I was trying to get my dad to pay for it lmao. But anyways the only way he'd pay for it he said is if they included a disk. . Which they didn't just an electronic copy D: Which I was fine with, but he wasn't >_>

I've been trying Microsoft Security Essentials as well on my macbook, but I always tend to scan all programs I download at VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner before opening them.

Nah, buying anti virus software in general, the best antivirus is to
use common sense and microsofts security essentials

(and keep your windows firewall active, do not use the "home network" setting in public wlans, for example)
But that's just my 2 cents, i'm not an expert on this stuff at all

Here's a list of antivirus's Ive used in the past and here's what I discovered.

Norton - GREAT if you don't even want to access the internet. That thing blocks itself it's so block happy.
BitDefender - Almost same as Norton, only this one is outdated by about a week compared to others.
AVG - It's good for a free antivirus, but then again, it's also slightly outdated and it doesn't have as many features as I'd like.
Comodo/ESET - Are good, but outdated. (this would be my second choice)
MCAfee - HOLY SHIT NEVER AGAIN. (Malware [proven] and a magure performance hog. Also works like Norton.)
Webroot - Good, but not good enough.

AVAST - The winner of all the above by far.
I used the Free version for ages. It has a good amount of features.
Real Time shields and a GREAT database. Updates pretty much every day.
(Yes, I did buy a full version.)
Don't let that discourage you though, the free version has the same database just lacks a few features. Nothing that you would depend on, that is.

So true... I used Norton for 8 years ago. That was REALLY CRAP omg omg! But then I switched over to Avast, i had never problems with the antivirus.

Kaspersky wasn't listed

It's very good and normally finds everything (even the hack used to register it, cause i never bought it LOL). Only problem I ever have is it's constantly scanning and checking stuff so it eats up some memory.. Idk, uninstalled it a while ago, haven't used it in a bit..
Pretty unprotected myself, but scan with Trend Micro's House Call when shit gets sketchy..

I am 75% addicted to Counterstrike. What about you? :wcc:

If you ask me, all you need is Avast and an occasional scan using Malware Bytes.
