SO
I'm bored. So here's a review on the game "Metro 2033".
I'll start with the bad first, naturally.
So you start the game playing eco style. You collect as much shit as you possibly can.
I usually dislike games where you spend half of the playing time looking for shit in random corners of the map.
Early in the game, you'll find yourself low on ammo ALL THE TIME until you hit about half way through the game.
Basically, half way through the game it showers you with supply boxes of ammo as if christmas comes early or some shit.
This is retarded as there is not even difficult battles that require that much ammo once you get farther into the game.
>Gas Mask
FUCK ME did this thing annoy me. You spend half of the time wearing it hyperventilating as if you're being anally probed by a 30 foot wide pole. Replacing the filter helps, yes. But not much at all as you're already used to the annoying breathe-in/breathe-out sounds. They could have at least made them less retarded.
>Voice/Narration
This is another thing that annoyed me. Did they just go around the world searching for russians (?) with bad English skills ? I had to spam enter every time the game loaded the next scene because my ears bled every time I heard him narrate two words, never mind the entire sentence.
>Guns
This could have used a better balance. The massive quick-switching shotgun was the best gun as the sub machine guns were complete shit.
I liked the revolvers though. A head shot actually meant something with them.
>Glitches
I came across a couple model glitches and was forced to reload a previous checkpoint once or twice. I'd randomly get stuck inside a team mate or moving model if I stood too close to them during their cutscene movement points.
So I think that's about all I have to say with the bad shit. Onward to the yummies.
>Scenery
I'm not talking about the actual world. I'm talking about his fantasy / infected minds world. If it wasn't for the cut-scenes of that mutant in his mind, this game would be complete horse shit.
The vision you go through at the top of the tower (AND BEFORE THAT ...) is fucking amazing. The maze you have to go through in which you run away from him is absolutely stunning (Even though you can get away from him as if he's an old man with two broken legs and he can only drag himself with his arms). The scene where you're in the self-constructing tunnels as you run away from him however, was the best part in the entire game for me.
>AI control
Besides the occasional model glitch, the AI actually seemed like they DID SHIT. Not to mention if they died, your ass was punished for it most of the time. Normally, I hate AI in games but in this one, they actually proved to be useful most of the time (EXCEPT FOR THE GOD AWFUL ENGLISH)
>World/Environment
So you find yourself spending most of the game underground. As shitty as that was, once you got out the game took a complete turn around. Usually, games lock you into sections of the map. However, in this game you can walk back to the start of the level if you so please. (I suppose this is so you can go back looking for ammo in case your dumb ass runs out ?)
The world construction gets BETTER the FARTHER you progress into the game. The cut-scene's really make up for all the cons of this section.
>Traps/Strategy
I fucking LOVED the fact they included traps in this game. If you know me well enough, you know I have bad memory. I forget easily. This leads you to believe that I constantly set off "string" pipe bombs.
Not going to lie, I did die from 2 or 3 of them. But every time I did, I laughed and just appreciated the game more for it. This was easily a boost in the games reputation for me. (Given the traps were there for only about half the game D: )
Every time I saw a trap or died from one, I smiled and loved it more.
>Monsters
At about 80 % of the game you get to see a close up of one of the "tanky" motherfuckers you're supposed to kill.
The model was CLEARLY set up like this so you could get a good look of his dental care and his facial design.
This is fine as the model actually looked pretty good to me.
You get to encounter a small range of mutant's (?) throughout the game which are actually great enemies.
I like the fact they didn't just focus on sticking as many models into one game as they possibly could.
It's a simple and amazing choice in monster models.
(The hanging tentacles were amazing too, as simple as they were :3)
(Although I would have liked their "catch" to instantly kill you rather than damage and bleed you out)

All in all, the game was good.
I got it for free and I can't say I was disappointed.
The cutscenes and traps made this game what it was.
8/10
Would play again.
