Spawn Nading

One person recently was banned for throwing a grenade at the ground. Ever since, people have been debating this and I want this settled with the public opinion of players and admins. I personally think it shouldn't be allowed as it complicates things for admins with the fire in the hole message. What is your opinion?

(If you vote without posting, your vote won't count.)
I think throwing a grenade before 10 seconds into the round should not be allowed no matter what, as the rules should be enforced at all times, and not only with specific contexts.
Well if they have got a good understanding of our rules and know that it is against the rules to do any interaction of sort like that then yes, this is a punishable offense. All that they're trying to do is push their limits and annoy admins. In their defense though I see it is "oh i never hit anyone, whats the big deal".

That's no excuse in my opinion, I've seen attempted spawn nades fail.
for the sake of time saving, I'm posting my previous post in here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I feel ridiculous for having to do this, but here goes nothing.
What is a general consensus on spawn nadding your own spawn. Example- I buy a nade on Banocanyon and I throw it straight down. No one is hurt in the process but myself. Is this against the rules?
Being an admin and having this issue come up, I'd like an idea from all of the admins and senior/super admins on here. There has already been dispute on whether it is or is not against the rules. Personally, I think it is beyond dumb to consider this rule breaking. It doesn't put you at any advantage and doesn't put anyone on the opposing team at a disadvantage. If someone were to get hurt on the other team, I'm quite positive that they would say something along the lines of "OWW WTF, SOMEONE JUST HURT ME!1 >" and for an example of what I think this "rule" would be like is: You can't shoot your weapon at all (even in the air or at the ground) before 10 seconds because you never know if you will hurt someone.
Anyway, I would like a general ruling and agreement on the issue.
I also feel like you phrased the question towards the answer you wanted. Most people are going to read that and think "Oh, i dont want to be hit by a nade.." and vote no.
It doesn't matter if they vote, they need to post their opinion. Also:
...no matter what?
is in the question. You'd have to be shit at reading to miss that.
I completely agree with this, this complicates shit more than it needs to be complicated.
I noticed it, dick... I just don't feel like that is accurately describing the situation that is being discussed.
Even then, my post describes the problem, what should the question be changed to?
Honestly I could care less if I lose 30-60 hp at the start of the round, Though it is a rule and can be annoying at times so I am voting enforce that rule.
It shouldn't be changed, it should be deleted. This entire situation is beyond stupid and anyone who thinks it is against the rules is an anal admin
Well... I think spawn nading must be punished only if nade hits anyone. I think it's nonsense if someone throw a smoke nade in air (before 4.50 or something) and gets punished for that, or even banned.
It sucks when people use flashbangs and shit at the beginning of the round.
> Trust your technolust
I voted no for the reason i believe this will be to hard to police. How do you plan on catching these people if you are not on their team having a admin spectate at all times? I wouldn't mind spectating for this seeing as I'm in spectate for a lot of the maps this is possible most notable surf_year3000.
This could also be prevented by adding a simple five second spawn protect and if players are still on the first ramp after five seconds then it is up to an admin to take action against first ramp shooting.
In my honest opinion, punishing someone for throwing a nade/flash whilst not affecting an enemy or ally is completely and/or utterly retarded.
I understand the confusion in-between players due to the "Fire in the hole" message, but that's not an excuse to be a complete dick over something that doesn't harm a soul.
Why create such a clusterfuck for such a simple thing ?
If it causes shit to either side of the teams, the person gets punished.
(Shit (in this case) being hp loss, blindness or similar game disrupting actions.)
And if an admin can't tell between who tossed the nade and or who got hit, they don't deserve to have it in the first place.
Usually, I bait people to do it to me. Then I simply suicide, get the name from console and punish them accordingly.
Jesus kids, this ain't rocket science.
Shall we go with a compromise or just keep it and have it so people can't be punished for doing so?
Edit:
Actually aren't there plugins that can reflect any damage done in maybe the first 10 seconds? Then admins wouldn't have to worry about spawn killing/nading/shooting at all.
But what if we are off first ramp within ten seconds like buck-wild? This wouldn't allow any killing for 10 seconds which doesn't work on all maps.
I'm sure the time could easily be adjusted to fit to our server's preferences.
That would be stupid since the person getting killed needs to spend the entire round dead. It's still perfectly easy to troll someone.
Imo, a 10 second spawn protection would be best.
I believe we had this in mind and we were going to add it, but there was some reason as to why we couldn't/wouldn't.
Well it's on DM, I don't see why it wouldn't work on regular surf unless the spawn protection is a part of DM.
i personally don't like to be spawn flashed on first ramp and fall into jail. :mad:
Are seriously having 2 pages of discussion about spawn nading when we could just have fucking spawn protection installed on the server? Why did that still not happen is beyond me
Sorry for the pissy attitude but all the moaning about spawnattacking is really getting on my nerves
Edit:
I could even write a spawn protection plugin if facewan has any special needs regarding surf-skill maps or something, so please tell me what you guys want and i'll try to pull it off
Edit:
Is there a way to re-vote? I voted yes because the question says "not be allowed" and i actually want spawn attacking allowed on the servers
Well.. I guess I'm just an anal admin.. I've banned people for spawn nading after 1 warning.. If getting burned and warned doesn't get it thru your head then a ban will..
Rules are rules, they must be enforced and followed.
OKAY, just to get one thing clear, i threw the grenade, at the ground, in my spawn, harming noone but myself, noone said ow or complained about it, in my opinion, if it doesnt hurt the team it shouldnt matter, but now we have spawn protection so you can pretty much shoot or throw grenades in the first 10 seconds without penalty ( at least that should be how it is )
And the point of bumping a month-old thread about a conflict that has already been solved is...?
Let's just close it and that'll be it! :D
