FaceWAN DayZ

Play on servers with other FaceWAN members!




Before you buy Arma2:CO just for DayZ:
If you are thinking about buying Arma2:CO just for DayZ, don't even think about it, you're about to make yourself look like a dumbass. Buy Arma2:CO if you think Arma actually interests you. If you just play DayZ all the time, it WILL get boring. Space DayZ out and try out normal Arma2, it's really fun. If singleplayer isn't your thing, just ask another person on FaceWAN who has Arma2, I know I myself or Infinity would be happy to host missions locally for now.(As long as our connections don't crap out.)

What is DayZ?
DayZ is a mod for ARMA 2: Combined Operations. You get to survive in a huge place called Chernarus. Zombies roam the towns and sometimes the wilderness. Zombies aren't your only problem though, you can't trust any other player as they might kill you for your gear. However, in order to survive properly, it's best you group up with a few other friends.

How do I get DayZ?
First you need ARMA 2: Combined Operations which can be bought here: ARMA 2: Combined Operations. This is a pretty good deal as it is two games for $29.99. After you buy and install the game, go here: DayZ Downloads. There is also a video on how to install the mod.

You can either get the Six Updater if you don't care if you have a piece of shit program on your computer or you can do a manual install which is quite easy.

Latin Geek's guide to manual installation (From FP)

-Download Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead on Steam
-Run Arma 2 as administrator
-Run Arma 2 OA as administrator
-Download the latest DayZ files from any of the mirrors. You need all of the ZIP files.
-Download the latest Beta Patch
-Install the beta by extracting the .EXE installer and running it
-Go to /Steam/Steamapps/Common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead
-Make an "@DayZ" folder, and make an "addons" folder inside that one.
-Extract all the files from the DayZ .ZIP files into that "addons" folder. Make sure the raw files are in the addons folder, and they're not inside their own folders.
-Go back to /Steam/Steamapps/Common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead
-Rename the ArmA2OA.EXE to something else, like ArmA2OA_old.EXE
-Grab the ArmA2OA.EXE from the /expansion/beta/ folder, and drop it where the other Arma2OA.EXE file was.
-Exit windows explorer, go to your steam library
-Right-click Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, go to properties, edit launch options.
-Add "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ" to your launch options, without the quotes and before any other commands.


What servers do people play on?
A lot of us play on the Virginia DayZ servers. The best way to find out what servers we are playing on is by going on Teamspeak.

How do I survive?
When you spawn, you will have a Makarov PM, six magazines, some food and water, and flares. If it is night, it's best to find a server that is at day. Do not hunt zombies, you will get killed. If you need to walk around, press X to crouch. If you need to sneak by zombies, press Z to go prone. Zombies will almost always kill you, and if they don't, you will end up wasting ammo. Another thing to remember is that you do not trust anybody else.

Should I be a bandit?
No, if you murder and I hear about it, I will post your name hear letting everybody know you can be shot on sight. Be a good person, help people out.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, I also wouldn't be surprised if we got more players. ARMA 2: Combined Ops is the third top seller right now on Steam because of DayZ.

Also, there is ARMA 2 Dedicated Server Tools and ARMA 2 OA Dedicated Server Tools. If you did get a server, it would have to be ARMA 2 OA Tools I think.

Also: Hosting DayZ. This probably means only Espeon should have admin if we do get a server.

Why the FUCK do they require you to set up a RDP session so they can install their gameserver software on YOUR OWN SERVER? That's ridiculous

Nvm i didn't properly read what dayz is apparently, gameplay stats and inventories seem to be persistent between servers

I believe it has to do with the fact that player info is shared across all DayZ servers but I don't know shit about this stuff so I don't know.

Unfortunately, they only support Windows based servers (we have a Linux server) and their view on how you are supposed to run your server is bullshit. Running a server for FaceWAN would be a waste of time in their opinion because we wouldn't be guaranteed slots in our own server, that and we couldn't make it private or they would deactivate it. Basically put we would be running a server for their mod, with no benefits of playing on our own server vs. another server.

There's always the possibility of running an ARMA 2 ACE 24/7 Insurgency server but I don't know how many people would play that, it probably wouldn't be as many compared to DayZ.

Updated the thread with a bit more info on installation from FP since a few of us have started playing again and chilling on TS. Infinity and I are actually at the airfield getting raped by tons of zombies while we only have a few mags for our AKs.

I'll try to get some screenshots up of what's going on with me and Gate's DayZ journey. If you guys can get to the North West airfield that's great because we are always happy to see new players join our adventure. If however, you decide to team up with us and stab us in the back stealing our loot.. the following will happen:
- We will hunt you
- We will find you
- We will kill you on sight
- We will announce you as a bandit
(Just get this in your head: You will face consequences)

I hope people are willing to play more than things like DayZ. Arma 2 has quite a bit of potential in what you can do with it. Try out stuff like ACE and the shit loads of custom missions and mods people have created on the BI Forums.

I suggest people play regular arma for like 5 hours and do boot camp stuff to understand the game and know every single control, jumping straight to a mod for the game seems stupid for me. It's like buying CSS for the first time but joining surf.

I had never played arma and i jumped right into dayz and got it instantly the controls are pretty basic it just took a second to figure out you use mouse wheel on some things.

Will there be a dayz facewan server when the game is fully released possibly? Or is that still out of the question.

Awwww YEA!! Check out the loot I just got from 4 hours of gameplay on my existing character. I had an AKM with 7 mags but I literally flipped out when I saw the DMR so I got that instead. The amount of food and beverages I have is crazy, thanks to the 24 slot Coyote Backpack (Backpack not Patrol Pack).

Have enough food Infinity? Drop some food and find some DMR mags i see them everywhere. I dropped my as50 ( dint get a screen shot ) it was way to loud i had the hoard on me when i shot someone with it in a town so i dropped it for a m4a1 cco. Also find some night vision before i shoot your ass in the middle of the night. Il screen shot my bag and gear when i can get in game servers are down at the moment i think cant get in at all.

I didn't say I had enough food, I just said the amount was crazy. However, yes I need to eat some of the food so I can find at least two more DMR mags since they're not that hard to find but I don't need many shots anyways since each is packed with 20 rounds.
I told you the AS50 was loud man, not as loud as the M107 but it sure will agro anything in a 1km radius. Don't take it the wrong way but dropping the AS50 for an M4A1 CCO seems stupid to me (literally).

I probably wouldn't shoot you if i knew it was you at least and i prefer the versatility of the M4A1 over the AS50 not much of a sniper but someone i play with is and he dint want it to its whatever.

Also has anyone stumbled across a downed helicopter I've found three so far one was in the middle of the airport and only had a M14 EP1 another had a FAL one with one 20 round mag had it for awhile and ditched it when i needed the room in my pack finally.

What the fuck did you think was going to happen when you fire an AS50 AMR? Fire from at least 500+ meters away because it's still VERY effective at that range.

Well, we can play sometime. However, still a bummer to leave the AS50 which is capeable of 1000+ meters. It's your choice though so I can't say much about that. Nice that you found three downed choppers, believe it or not I've never seen even one of them yet. I've had an M14 AIM and a FN FAL but so far I'd prefer any high powered sniper over those weapons. Small backpacks can be a bitch though, I'm glad I got the 24 slot one.

Sick shit! L85A2 AWS that's the gun with thermal if I'm correct. Have fun using it since it uses 30rnd STANAG mags.

Dude the only thing I can say is Oh My God. Dude okay Aether,Trip, and me were all in a sever. We have been looting all day and we made it to the SW air field we heard a heli copter and saw it so we left. We were making our way to Novy Sobor and got Stary Sobor. We stopped at the super market then started to head to Novy. We got chased by zeds though. So we went into a barn. I then made the mistake of lighting chem lights. After we did a blood transfusion we all met up again. As soon as we got into a wooded area all we heard was the helicopter. It then flew over the town and started firing on the town looking for us. For like 10 minutes it kept flying over town over and over looking for us. It was the scariest moment playing DayZ in my life :O. It was awesome

Found a M136 with two rockets by it dint pick it up since i don't need a rocket for anything buddy went to go grab it and it was gone found it in the north barracks in the airfield.

Also correct with the thermal/night vision scope.
